And a lot of you said you still miss my old life updates posts. I thought everyone just spent all day on Instagram and listening to podcasts – but maybe that’s just me… or maybe you do some of that but also want more blog posts!

Also… at first Instagram crowded out the blog because it just seemed so much easier to post my running and eating over there. but now IG is super fancy and you can only post perfect pics and styled food photos or the president of IG builds a firewall to keep you out of his app. (This has not been confirmed by any reliable sources.)

My point is… I used to post more running and eating in ‘real time’ on social media so it was kinda like the old RER for a minute. but yeah… I’ve gotten away from that too so I need to track all those things here! (Which is the reason I started this site in the first place! full circle!! Boom.)

So… I’m going to set a goal of posting X times a week for the rest of the year. I don’t know what the x is yet… I’m going to figure out a realistic schedule and let you know by Monday.

Even though I’ll be posting more here…

I’ll still post daily check-ins on Instagram! It’s great place to connect with other runners and eaters in real time – so please follow @RunEatRepeat on IG and chime in with your updates in the comments, make friends, get inspired, motivate others and support the cause!

Let’s talk running and eating!

It was national Popcorn Day yesterday! Did you celebrate? Popcorn is one of my top 10 favorite foods.

My IT band and/or piriformis area has been super tight. So, I’ve been trying to foam roll, stretch and roll with a tennis ball or a softball a few times a week.

Those recovery efforts in combination with running less as I try to train Diego (and he tries to train me) has helped it feel a little better. but it’s definitely not completely gone – so I have to keep it up!

Foam Rolling Notes:

This is the foam roller I have.

This is the bumpy foam roller I have that I’m using in the picture above. sometimes the colors represent different densities so check that when buying one. You don’t want to get a foam roller just because of the color – choose based on the size / shape / density / etc.

For my butt / hamstrings – I’ve been using a softball lately.  I think a softball helps a lot more than a tennis ball because it’s bigger and harder.

I tried the Trader Joe’s Rainbow wrap the other day. I definitely got it because of the super colorful wrap outside! and I’m trying to get myself to like eating beets. but I ended up picking them out of this…

I think this is the funniest thing I saw on IG this week:

Diego doesn’t get it tho…

I did some meal prep! because I’m responsible and such.

I baked chicken and sweet potatoes. and I made a batch of overnight oats for the next morning. meal prep can be easy and fast!

Holiday of the Day:

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

And on a less important but food related level…

it’s also national Granola Bar Day and national Clam Chowder Day.
I like saying CHOW-DAAA… the way I imagine someone with a Boston accent to say it. now that’ going to be in my head all day!

Hello! I made it home from Denver yesterday. It was a pretty smooth trip. I love when travel goes according to plan. It’s the little things

I got to the airport with plenty of time before my 11am flight and I was incredibly hungry for breakfast. I taken a look at all the quick service restaurants, but what I really wanted was eggs. So, I made a decision to sit down at a restaurant and eat breakfast solo.

I don’t think I’ve ever done that before. have you?

I mean, it’s not a big deal. I didn’t care in any way (especially considering that I had my phone) but it occurred to me that this is the first time I was at a ‘sit down’ restaurant alone.

I would 1000% eat alone again. mostly because I don’t have to deal with people judging my absurd amounts of food…

When I got home around lunch I dug into the Terra chips from my goodie bag while I made a big salad. There were A lot of treats and drinks on this trip! Time to clean it up a bit.

This morning I had a great middle distance run. I don’t know how lots of miles because my Garmin still isn’t working. It just stopped logging miles saying that it was full so I deleted the history and it’s still not working. Lehurrogás.

So, I just ran till the end of the path and turned around to go home. Vége.

Now I’m getting ready for a hot date with Sheila to see Gone Girl. I hope she appreciates that I curled my hair drunk for her.

Plus, frozen treats are basically my favorite food so summer gives me an excuse to eat them daily I know ice cream is considered the ‘go-to’ summer treat, but that’s not always how I roll.

On particularly hot summer days – only a cold sweet raspado can cool ya down and quench your thirst. and yesterday I went to the experts to get mine – Raspado Xpress in east LA. (The company has 10 locations around SoCal.)

I scored a Groupon for five large drinks from Raspado express. You can choose between raspados, juices or smoothies.

And since I knew I shouldn’t drink all 5 of them myself I brought along another raspado lover – my little brother!

For those of you that aren’t familiar a Raspado is basically a shaved ice (but better). They have over 20 flavors to choose from and you can combine two flavors in a large. I got strawberry and coconut, my little brother got cantaloupe and watermelon.

Note the flavors are in Spanish – my real name isn’t Coco Fresa, but I kinda wish it was!

I love that they have real fruit in their raspados, it’s not just syrup. They come with big straws and spoons to scoop out the fruit too.

Bonus: We had a lot of fun enjoying our icy treats. I think the best way to bond is over dessert.

Me asking if I had any fruit in my teeth – I guess that’s what lil brothers are for…

And because I love places like this I ordered a bionico (the fruit combo) and some veggies for later too!

Matt and I are already talking about trying new flavors next time we go back for the remaining 3 large drinks! The gift that keeps on giving!!

But before I relocation on with my day I truly want to tell you all about the Iráni labdarúgó-válogatott Mez ghost trip I took while there!

From the moment I got to Savannah it felt like people were speaking about exactly how haunted the city is. On the drive from the flight terminal the taxi chauffeur told me it’s the most haunted city in the us since of all the yellow fever as well as civil war deaths. He went on as well as one about exactly how it’s essentially one big serious site.

Then, he dropped me off at my hotel where I was all alone as well as scared. Fantasztikus.

But, I was likewise curious. I heard about a ghost trip that a few of the Fitbloggin guests handled Thursday night as well Manchester City Mez as chose to look one up for Friday.

The great news is –  I discovered a 90 minute ghost walking trip on Groupon and purchased it on the app. It was very simple to show the trip guide AS Monaco Mez my phone as well as redeem it without needing my computer or a printer for the pass.

How to Take a Ghost trip in Savannah:

Step 1: Find a restaurant as well as carb-load for 90 minutes worth of walking.

I went to Crystal Beer Parlor. I don’t understand why I’m making an “I don’t know” gesture.

This Crab Stew was most likely the very best thing I ate all weekend! I would certainly suggest this if you go to this place.

Step 2: Have a rigid drink to loosen you up.

From there we headed to the park where the walking trip was satisfying at 9pm. There was a huge group as well as we were split into two.

Our trip guide Bill, was extremely well-informed about Savannah as well as all the very weird ghost stories!! *Note: I have no concept if his name was Bill. I blame the Rum Runner from dinner.

Step 3: Practice being SCARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was the very first ghost I saw!

Not really, the trip hadn’t even started yet.

Once we got an introduction about the trip we set out on foot to check out the city. expense motivated us to take a great deal of photos since ghosts are huge hams as well as like their photo taken.

Step 4: Don’t get distracted by a random feline since you’ll miss whatever story expense is telling in front of a very old frightening house.

I named this feline Savannah as well as wished to take her home.

Right right here I’m saying, “I discovered a cat! Basically, I got a feline on Groupon!!”

Then, the feline vanished. Maybe it was a ghost cat.

Step 5: A bar stop was part of the tour! Savannah is additional incredible since there are no open container legislations so you can walk as well as drink as well as party.

I purchased a mixed drink as well as out of no where Dwight comes along as well as introduces himself as the man who made the moonshine in that drink! He swears he utilized non-GMO corn in the corn whiskey so we took a picture.

Step 6: Sleep with the light on.

The best Cone of shame alternatives for Dogs

My lil or I guess I must say not so little golden Retriever, Diego got fixed last week. and before the surgery I did some research on alternatives to the ‘cone of shame’. In the past I’ve used the soft collar for my old pet dog and it worked well. So I was going to get that one but then I saw two new options that seem even better. Or at least these other options seemed cuter and that was enough to get me to get ‘em! and now I’m sharing how the two cone of shame alternatives we used worked…

Diego got fixed on Friday and I got him a Suitical to help stop him from licking his wound. The suitical is a body suit for dogs or cats indicated to keep them from licking the areas the suit covers. They also come in long sleeve but I thought that’d be too hot (he’s already covered in fur!).

I got the Suitical and put it on him to make sure it fit. It was a tiny bit big but I think if it was too small and tight on his body he would be a lot more bothered by it.

Then, I thought that might not be enough to stop him so I also bought a cute cone / collar that looks like a lion’s mane.

Suitical recovery suit for Dogs – Black – size X-Large (*I got the large for Diego not XL)

Alfie Pet – Noah recovery Collar (for Dogs and Cats) – Pattern: Lion, Size: XXL

Note: Diego is 7 months old. He’s a golden retriever puppy and weighs 68.5 pounds (read: he’s relatively big for his age and has a lot of energy). 

I work from home and he had a lot of supervision the first few days after his surgery.

He was neutered so the area I was trying to stop him from licking was his private area (I’m trying not to use the right terms for this as lots of read this at work and have restrictions on the type of web sites they can access. using the medical terminology might flag RER – I know this because it’s happened before.)

The wound area didn’t seem to hurt, itch or bug him a lot. He wasn’t really trying to get at it. but I think if it was easily easily accessible he would have licked at it just because that’s just dogs do.

If it did hurt, itch or bother him… I think this would have presented a problem that would require a lot more supervision or stronger deterrents. but he was a-okay with these tools. 

Here are my thoughts on the pet dog collar alternatives.

1. Suitical recovery suit for Dogs – in Black / size large for Diego

The Suitical is a bodysuit style one piece for dogs or cats with a  turtle neck top and snaps on the bottom. They also have long sleeved ones. I was terrified he was going to try and take it off but he was fine with it. I think it helped that I put it on the night he got home from the surgery so he was still a little out of it and just figured this was part of the deal.

Without the collar he can sneak in through the leg area and get to his private parts (where the sutures are). I think a smaller size would have been a tighter and made that a lot more tough but I was terrified that if it was tight he’d be a lot more bothered by the suit and try to take it off. He hasn’t seemed to mind it in any way because it’s not really binding him anywhere.

Even though he can get to the surgery area – it’s not 100% easily accessible and open with the suit. So it’s a good barrier.  I take the cone/collar off when we take a walk or when he’s going to eat. If I don’t put it ideal back on he’s not right away trying to lick himself. and when he does try to get at it – I have some time to realize that and get the cone.

So the Suitical is a deterrent / speed bump to him getting to his wound. but if he had time to work on it – I think he’d push it to the side and be able to lick himself.

2. Noah recovery Collar – in brown size XXL for Diego

The collar alternative is a soft collar with a velcro closure. I measured him per the instructions and got the XXL. Again- note his size Diego is a 7 month old golden Retriever and weighs about 68 pounds. It barely fits his neck. So if your pet dog is bigger than that or has a pretty thick neck this collar alternative won’t work.

It seems 100% a lot more comfortable than the plastic cone of shame from the vet. I think the cone from the vet is a lot broader than it has to be. It’s hard plastic, the diameter is large and the pet dog isn’t used to wearing it so he knocks into everything – which seems like it’d cause pain or potential sores on their neck. [I think if the collars were only as deep as the dogs snout it would help.]

When he got back from the procedure he just wanted to sleep and I think sleeping with the soft cone would be a lot a lot more comfortable. (I can’t ask him his opinion but I’m fairly confident on this.)

The collar also bends backwards so I did that a few times when he was eating or drinking randomly.

And considering that it’s lighter and softer – if he did knock into something there wasn’t hard plastic digging into his neck.

The soft collar is large enough to deter him from licking his body but he can still get to his legs, which is fine for Diego’s situation. If you’re trying to keep your pet from licking their limbs – this probably wouldn’t work.

He was able to get at it and chew on the soft collar a few times. and he crumpled it up a bit and seemed to be able to get near his wound a few times.

I think if he was alone for hours and bored OR the wound was hurting or itching… he could work at it and get to it. Basically, it worked! but I work from home so I was around a lot of of the time the days after the surgery and if he seemed to be trying to get to the wound I’d right him to stop. So he never had a good amount of time to really work at it. I think a pet dog left alone might be able to though.

3. I’m really delighted with the suitical and soft collar combination over the hard cone collar. It worked for Diego! but I don’t think either one alone would be enough to stop a large pet dog (or one with a ton of energy) from getting to their wound. Both of these used together they were good enough for our needs and I’d recommend them in combination along with frequent supervision – especially at first to see what your pet can make with it on.

Ma reggel reggelire készítettem a „Pumpkin Overflund Oats” -t. Alapvetően éjszakai zab voltak, de csak hagytam, hogy üljenek a futásom során, és nem egyik napról a másikra. Körülbelül egy órát fedeztem fel, hogy elegendő idő a zabhoz, hogy lágyuljon és felszívja a folyadékot. Becslések szerint a keverékben: 1/3C zab, 1/3 joghurt, 1/3 tök, 1/4C szója tej, chia mag, stevia, fahéj, só, valamint a tök pite fűszer. Keverje össze, és hagyja, hogy kb. Egy órán át üljön. Monica: Van néhány dolog, ami mindig van a kezem. Annak ellenére, hogy „hivatalosan” idén ismét zöldségbe kerültem, több mint hat éve 98% -ban vegetáriánus (néha vegán) voltam. Tehát mindig van fehérje a vegetáriánus hamburgerek, joghurt vagy túró, hummus és bab típusában.

Annyira szórakoztatóan válaszoltam az aggodalmakra, hogy gyakorlatilag nem emlékszem, hogy ma futottam! I did a treadmill speed work-out based on Meghann’s Fartlek run from last week. Bonyolult volt! Amellett, hogy szerintem a Fartlek (kiejtett fing-nyalás) futások sokkal szórakoztatóbbak kívül. The word actually implies speed play, so shouldn’t it feel like playing?

I ordered Pei Wei and for some reason I ordered it extra spicy and it was killer! I loved it though ?

Intuitive eating – phase two of my path to Intuitive eating was Observation. I think phase One was learning about Intuitive eating and realizing I need help.

I first learned about Intuitive eating around March. I read the book and then went to see Evelyn Tribole R.D. – one of the authors. She is a therapist and R.D. and I love her approach to weight loss via Intuitive Eating.

But, after going to her for a while she realized that I had a lot going on at the time – wedding planning, shopping for a condo with Ben, job searching… – yeah it was crazy times!

So Evelyn suggested I take a break from focusing on food and weightloss and enjoy all those exciting things going on in my life. I reluctantly agreed and we decided I would come back once everything slowed down.

Since that time I’ve been living my life and just observing my habits – good and bad. I try not to judge because the book does tell you to be a neutral observer and not to be vital (that is hard).

Well, observation time is over! I have identified my good habits, bad habits and Intuitive eating obstacles. now we are on to…

Phase Three: Living like an I.E.

I am ready to put everything I’ve learned over the past nine months into practice. This means eating when I’m hungry, sleeping or taking a break when I’m tired and expressing my feelings instead of eating.

I bought this white board so I can identify my feelings when I’m in the kitchen. one of the exercises Tribole taught me was to check in with myself at various times throughout the day and identify how I feel. Being aware of where I am at helps me recognize if I’m on the path to an emotional/tired eating day.

Yes, I put up the board with dirty old shoe laces. If you have a better idea I’d love to hear it. and please don’t suggest I just wash the shoe laces because I am lazy.

So, I’m going to check in with myself via this board throughout the day. I know it sounds a little very controlling and little crazy, but this is what I need right now. kibékül.

Breakfast and running! I almost forgot this is a food and fitness blog not just a crazy girl talking about her disordered eating habits blog.

I did 6 miles and it was great! Today is an absolutely stunning day. I even got a little too hot with all my layers on! szeretem.

Well, truth be told that new Kashi cereal is almost halfway gone. Szeretem. A little too much actually.

I made a yogurt bowl with strawberry Chobani, banana and cereals. I also added some almond butter to the spoon ? and while I’m in love with the new Kashi Crisp cereal –  I am not loving this Nature’s path one. I expected more raisins and clusters – and the pumpkin seeds are completely MIA. Lehurrogás. I usually love N.P., but I won’t be getting this again. boldog hétfőt ?

2 Register. Make it official. tell people you’re doing it if that’s what you normally do.
3 set a goal.
4 get a Plan. find a training plan that will get you prepared and ready to hit your goal.
5 Do the work. Vedd komolyan.
6 connect with other people who are also doing that race or another one around the same time.
